Renewable energy sources

A balanced electricity mix

The Axpo Group believes in the long-term potential of new energy sources. Therefore, Axpo wishes to establish itself as the market leader in this area with a share of at least 40 percent of the Swiss market. Axpo relies upon a balanced electricity mix as a contribution towards safeguarding the electricity supply; thus, it also relies heavily upon new energy sources. Axpo aims to expand its capacities at home and abroad massively over the coming years. The activities are based on commercial principles. In Switzerland it focuses on the production of base load energy, primarily from small-scale hydroelectric power and biomass, although it will also include geothermics in the longer term. Axpo is planning to make investments of around three billion francs in Switzerland by 2030. Its investments since 2006 alone amount to 500 million francs. Its focus abroad is on the areas of wind energy, small-scale hydroelectric power and solid biomass.
