Centrale de Rüchlig
Low-pressure run-of-river power station on the River Aare
The Rüchlig power station near Aarau uses the slope of the River Aare to generate an output of 9 MW. The plant, which was taken over by Axpo AG, formerly NOK, in 2002, came about as a result of the continuous further expansion of the transmission plant which was built in 1882 for a cement works, Zementfabrik Zurlinden & Co. Its current configuration came about in 1960 through the installation of three pipe turbines. It produces an average of around 55m kWh of electricity every year.
Work is currently under way on a project to replace the power station.
