Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG

Storage power station in Glarus Land

The Linth-Limmern power stations, which are situated in Linthal (GL), were built in 1964 and are co-owned by the Glarus cantonal authority and Axpo AG. The 50m franc share capital is divided as follows: 85% Axpo AG, 15% Glarus cantonal authority. The Linth-Limmern power stations are used to produce peak-load energy, adapted to meet consumption requirements, thanks to their rapid availability and their large output capacity (340 MW). Mean annual production is 428m kWh.

The various power station stages use inflow from a catchment area in the source area of the Linth, covering around 140 km2. Pumped operation enables water to be transferred from Hintersand stage to the Limmernboden reservoir. A plant expansion involving the Limmern-Tierfehd pumped storage machine group went into operation in 2009.There is an expansion project at the planning stage: the Muttsee-Limmern pumped storage power station.

The managerial mandate is held by Axpo Hydro Energy.
