Low-pressure run-of-river power station on the River Aare

Rupperswil-Auenstein power station, which is located in Aarau, is co-owned by Swiss Rail (SBB) and Axpo AG. The energy supplied by the power station is fed in equal shares into the two shareholders' power supply networks. The 12m franc share capital is divided as follows: 55% SBB, 45% Axpo AG. The power station has an output of 40 MW and uses the slope of the River Aare over a distance of 7.3 km. The mean annual production is 212m kWh. The plant was built between 1942 and 1945. Its contractual territory comprises unspoilt riverside woods and is a popular destination for walking and relaxing.

The managerial mandate is held by Axpo Hydro Energy.
