Beznau nuclear power plant is located in the lower Aare valley, not far from where it joins the Rhine. Beznau is situated in the vicinity of some large conurbations in the Swiss midlands. The power plant is on an island between the Aare river and Beznau hydroelectric power station intake canal. Since the Aare provides adequate water for cooling purposes, no cooling tower is necessary.
