Beznau replacement nuclear power plant
A glimpse into the future
Beznau nuclear power plant comprises two practically identical units, Unit 1 and Unit 2, each generating 365 Megawatt (MW) net. They are both baseload stations, i.e. with a constant power output around the clock, except for two to four weeks during the summer shutdown for annual overhaul and changing fuel elements.
The hybrid cooling tower, which stands about 60 m high, is on the left of the photograph. It will not emit a visible plume of steam. The plant will comprise the power house (green, center of the figure), the reactor building opposite and the fuel element intermediate store (front right). It is a priority that the plant blends into the landscape. It is likely to take about six years to build.
Take a virtual journey through time and witness the replacement of the Beznau nuclear power plant.
