Care with bodies of water

It goes without saying that operations at the Beznau nuclear power plant are conducted carefully with due regard for the River Aare and for the groundwater in the Lower Aare Valley. Measurements led by the Environmental Agency of the canton of Aargau serve to ensure that the operation of the facility has no negative impact on the bodies of water.

The operation of the plant is subject, among other things, to constant monitoring for the effect of it on the temperature of the water in the Aare and groundwater, as well as for chemical effects on the bodies of water. This is facilitated by an extensive network of points for measuring the temperature of the water in the River Aare and for collecting water samples for chemical analyses.

The findings of the watercourse observations and studies within the facility's area of influence are positive. Therefore, the Beznaunuclear power plant is harmless to bodies of water.

The Waterways protection monitoring map contains further information about the protection of rivers and lakes.
