Axpo continues to rank among the worldwide best companies in energy trading: In the most recent survey by the trade magazines „Risk“ and „Energy Risk“ the company was voted the number 1 in numerous categories. As in the previous year, Axpo is the leader among power trading companies in Europe and individual countries, and achieved top ranks in gas trading. Once again, the outstanding performance demonstrates that the consistent expansion of international presence and business activities that began years ago is bearing fruit.
Through its Scandinavian subsidiary Axpo Nordic AS, Axpo has concluded a long-term power purchase agreement for an onshore wind farm in Egersund, Norway. The agreement was signed with LUXCARA, a leading asset manager for renewable energy investments.
The energy company Axpo is set to become a new operator on the Swedish gas market. Axpo has signed an agreement with Swedegas, which owns and runs the Swedish gas transmission grid, to become a balance administrator. Axpo will also sell gas, which will offer greater freedom of choice to Swedish gas consumers.
This week Axpo hosted the Industry Advisory Panels (IAP), a recurring meeting of high-level representatives from the international gas industry, for the first time. Volkswind GmbH, an Axpo subsidiary, has concluded an agreement with Chorus Clean Energy AG for the sale of a wind farm portfolio in Western France. Chorus Clean Energy AG is special-ised in the operation of solar and wind energy plants.
Germany’s largest aluminium smelter „Rheinwerk“ in Neuss will procure additional electricity volumes from Axpo: Supplementary to the power contract entered into last year, Axpo will supply the subsidiary of Norwegian Norsk Hydro ASA with 1.3 TWh of electricity annually for the time period from 2021 to 2025, representing a financial volume in the nine-figure range for Axpo.
A major milestone for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP): The official construction inauguration ceremony for the pipeline took place in the Greek port of Thessaloniki with high-ranking political figures from various European countries in attendance. By the year 2020, natural gas from the Shah Deniz phase II gas field, located southeast of Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, will flow through TAP to Southern Italy and on to Central Europe. Axpo is the initiator of this geo-strategic, economically important project and holds an interest of 5% in TAP.
Axpo Sverige AB has signed an agreement with Svensk NaturEnergi AB, a subsidiary to the Wallenstam Group and a producer of pure Swedish energy from its own wind turbines. Under the agreement, Svensk NaturEnergi will transfer its balancing responsibility and spot market trading to Axpo Sverige.

Axpo Sverige AB has entered into collaboration agreement with Gislaved Energi AB. Gislaved Energi offers sustainable energy solutions to energy users in the Gislaved and Gnosjö municipalities, as well as to the entire Gnosjö region’s business community.
On 28th of November, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator (Lithuanian TSO) – Litgrid, held their yearly meeting during which the awards were given out to the electricity market players. Out of 75 registered market players in Lithuania, Axpo Nordic AS was awarded for the category: "innovation and activity in market development". This is a great accomplishment for Axpo in the Baltics.
The construction-ready 46.2 MW Brotorp wind farm in Sweden, owned by BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, is set to be constructed and later also operated by Arise AB. Axpo Nordic AS has signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement with Arise AB from 2016 to 2025.
As of 1 October 2014, the Axpo business area Trading & Sales will have a new structure: The most important European subsidiaries will report directly to the new Head of the business area Trading & Sales, Domenico De Luca, and, as a result, strongly enhance their management role. In addition, the Swiss sales business will be integrated into a newly created division called „Origination Western Europe“. The new organisation reflects the increased importance of the European business.
Axpo Sverige AB has entered into a collaboration agreement with Jönköping Energi AB. The agreement consists of cooperation regarding electricity trading, production optimisation and physical deliveries. The collaboration began in autumn 2013.
During the fall of 2013 Power Wind Partners (PWP) and Axpo Sverige AB initiated a collaboration regarding portfolio management and trading for PWP's wind power production, which amounts to more than 260 Gigawatt hours per year.
Axfood AB has signed an agreement with Axpo Sverige AB and Affärsverken AB for portfolio management and physical supply of electricity to all company-owned stores in Sweden. The agreement covers about 280 GWh.
Axpo Nordic has acquired a portfolio of structured power contracts. The portfolio covers 16 customers from Finland, Sweden and Norway representing industries, retailers and power producers. The total takeover volume is 2.7 TWh and includes both financial and physical contracts. Furthermore, Axpo Nordic has also acquired a new portfolio management contract.
