Together with its partners, Axpo operates over 100 power plants. Our climate-friendly Swiss power mix comprises hydropower, biomass and nuclear energy with very low CO2 levels. As the largest producer of hydropower, and thanks to investments in biomass and fermentation plants, as well as hydroelectric plants, Axpo is by far the largest producer of renewable energies in Switzerland.

Axpo is focusing more and more on wind energy in Europe and investing in technically and commercially suitable locations. Axpo’s wind farm portfolio includes plants in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Northern Europe.

Global Tech I

We have an investment in Global Tech I, one of the first commercial offshore wind farms in the world. Global Tech I is located about 180 km from Bremerhaven in the German North Sea. The wind farm covers an area of 41 km2 and includes 80 wind turbines with a capacity of 5 megawatts each. A total installed capacity of 400 megawatts delivers up to 1.4 billion kilowatt hours of environmentally friendly electricity per year.

Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP)

The natural gas pipeline, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), currently under construction, runs from the western border of Turkey across Greece and Albania through the Adriatic Sea to Italy. Axpo holds a 5% interest in the TAP project. The pipeline will make an important contribution to the diversification of Axpo’s asset portfolio and to ensuring natural gas supply in Europe. Axpo will use the natural gas to supply the European markets.

Linthal 2015

Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern (KLL), in which Axpo holds an interest of 85 per cent and the canton Glarus an interest of 15 per cent, is building an additional, underground pumped storage plant for CHF 2.1 billion in the Glarner Alps. The extension is one of the most challenging major projects undertaken to date in Europe. Functioning like a highly flexible battery, the pumped storage plant will make an important contribution to electricity supply security in Switzerland.
