23.08.2017 | Apprentice camp 2017 - A look back
Axpo apprentices looked after the Furka railway for a week. Commercial apprentice Selina Peter reports on the experience.
What do commercial clerks, polymechanics, automation specialists, IT specialists, and technicians rarely do? Exactly. Work outside. Last week they performed various maintenance tasks along the nostalgic Furka railway route. "We mainly removed moss along the tracks to prevent the stones from shifting," reports Selina Peter. Under the supervision of the camp leaders they also mowed the grass in the area.
For the most part, the Furka railway is maintained by volunteers. The multi-track cogwheel railway is very popular among railroad fans. Owing to the danger of avalanches it cannot be operated in winter. "I am very proud of my work this week," says Selina and adds: "I contributed to maintaining a piece of Swiss history."
"We spent our breaks at the water reservoir," says Selina. "We were also able to barbecue there." On Thursday, the apprentices had an opportunity to take a ride on the famous route and in the evening they competed in so-called highland games, which Selina liked most.
The week was different for cook Petra Winter. She was promoted to chef and cooked for the group for the entire week. Petra was in charge of everything from shopping to the meals. Selina confirms: "The food was great all week!"
Boring? Not at Axpo. Our apprentices experience lots of highlights beyond their training. The apprenticeship camp for second year apprentices is just one example. All the apprenticeship professions come together to work on a common goal: Team work!
