Get to know us better

Axpo is Switzerland's largest producer of renewable energy and an international leader in energy trading and the marketing of solar and wind power. 6000 employees combine experience and expertise with a passion for innovation. Axpo develops innovative energy solutions based on state-of-the-art technologies for its customers in over 30 countries in Europe, the USA and Asia.

The power behind power

What powers the television at home, the lights that brighten our streets, or the smartphones connecting the world? A reliable source of energy. We run and maintain the complex systems delivering power so that millions of people can watch their favourite shows, drive on well-lit streets, text loved ones, and live a life of uninterrupted energy.

Energy for everyone

In Switzerland, Axpo produces and manages the supply of climate-friendly, CO2-free electricity. At the start of each day, Axpo’s Network Control Centre in Baden switches on additional power plants. In the evening, when a thrilling football match goes into extra time, for example, we keep additional power plants on the grid – so that nobody misses the decisive goal.

Always on

Power begins with a steady supply of electricity. Around the clock, power plants must produce the exact amount of electricity drawn from the power grid. If it didn’t, the system would collapse. Power plants that can continuously feed the power grid with adjustable outputs are essential if the system is to run seamlessly.

The Power of Renewables

Axpo owns more than 5,000 MW of installed renewable energy across Europe and manages a renewable energy portfolio of 99 TWh. Our activities in this field include wind energy, photovoltaics, biomass and hydropower. In Spain, for example, Axpo manages one of the country's largest renewable energy portfolios of around 8,550 MW. Reinforced by the know-how of our subsidiary Volkswind, Axpo is also one of the largest wind farm developers in Germany and France. In photovoltaics, we are also a major international player, harnessing the expertise and skill of our subsidiary Urbasolar.

In Switzerland, Axpo is the largest producer of renewable energy, including the generation of more than half of the country’s renewable electricity from hydropower.

Reliable energy systems

To ensure the steady flow of power, our energy storage power plants produce vast quantities of electricity in just minutes and store temporary surpluses for later use. This energy is supplied continuously from run-of-river, biomass and nuclear power plants. To meet evolving energy needs, we believe grid infrastructure and operation are equally important. That’s why we work constantly to upgrade and expand our grid.

Leading the transition

To power a sustainable future, we manage a comprehensive portfolio of power plants, from hydropower and biomass to solar and wind. In fact, we are Switzerland’s largest producer of renewable energy. While our tried and tested nuclear power plants provide a reliable supply of climate-friendly, CO2-free energy, we are also constantly expanding our renewable energy capabilities.

Powering tomorrow’s energy marketplaces

The world of energy is evolving at an incredible pace. We invest in energy solutions based on state-of-the-art technology, like Switzerland's first digital hydropower plant. Teams of Axpo experts are also hard at work, creating digital platforms that will power the energy marketplaces of the future.

Local around the globe

With more than 30 locations across Europe, North America and Asia, the Axpo Group is always close to its customers. And our proximity is more than geographic. We speak our customers’ languages, are immersed in their culture, and understand their specific market conditions. We have a significant presence in the European onshore wind and large-scale solar power business. Axpo is also one of the leading European energy traders along the entire time horizon, from intraday trading to multi-year contracts, with a broad range of products worldwide. Our renewable energy portfolio is one of the largest in the market, and we are the preferred European provider of tailored customer solutions.
