Italian TV Tax: as part of your bill

In accordance with the decree 13 May 2016, n. 94, the Ministry of Economic Development has introduced that the Italian TV Tax is now to be paid through the electricity bill, for residential clients.

The amount will be paid in 10 monthly installments of 9,00 euro each: from January up to and including October.

It’s possible to request exemption from the Internal Revenue Service (Agenzie delle Entrate): here is what to do if you are not in possession of a TV set.

The Internal Revenue Service (Agenzia delle Entrate) offers a form for TV tax exemption (special declaration), which you can download from their website, fill out and submit directly to them.

Submission deadlines for the special declaration in 2017:

  • Those submitted between February 1st and June 30th exonerates payment for the 2nd half of the current year

  • Those submitted between July 1st and January 31st exonerates payment for the entire following year (2018).

The declaration ceases to be effective each year and should be resubmitted in accordance with the time frames mentioned above; otherwise the IRS will proceed to charge the fee as part of the electricity bill.
