Roland Schmidiger definitely takes over the management of the Beznau nuclear power plant

10.09.2020 - At the beginning of October 2020, Roland Schmidiger, the long-time deputy and current interim manager, will definitely take over the management of the Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB). With his management team, Roland Schmidiger has the task to ensure the reliable and safe operation of the power plant also in future and to further strengthen the acknowledged high safety culture in the team.

Roland Schmidiger is supported in his management work by his deputies Frank Kündig, Head of Mechanical Engineering (58), and Roger Gampp (57), Head of Operations. The supervisory authority ENSI has been informed of these changes.

Roland Schmidiger (57), an electrical engineer from ETH Zurich with a post-graduate degree in business administration, was Head of Asset Management of the Nuclear Energy Division at Axpo from 2005. In this function, he also worked on Axpo's power plant projects. From 2013 he was responsible for major projects at the Beznau nuclear power plant. From 2016 he was Head of Project Planning and Deputy Power Plant Manager. The period after 2013 saw the implementation of major construction projects, such as the installation of the new pressure vessel covers, the installation of the new, self-sufficient and bunkered emergency power supply system and a new plant information system. As project manager, Roland Schmidiger was also involved in the investigations on the alumina inclusions in the pressure vessel of the reactor in unit 1.
