Large volume order for Axpo in Germany

02.06.2016 - Germany’s largest aluminium smelter „Rheinwerk“ in Neuss will procure additional electricity volumes from Axpo: Supplementary to the power contract entered into last year, Axpo will supply the subsidiary of Norwegian Norsk Hydro ASA with 1.3 TWh of electricity annually for the time period from 2021 to 2025, representing a financial volume in the nine-figure range for Axpo.

In the summer of 2015, Axpo concluded a power contract with the aluminium company Hydro Aluminium Rolled Products GmbH, a fully owned subsidiary of Norsk Hydro ASA, for Germany’s largest aluminium plant in Neuss in the Rhineland region. This contract foresaw annual electricity deliveries totalling approximately 900,000 MWh with a base load of 100 megawatts (MW) over the time period from 2018 to 2025.

Meanwhile, Axpo and Hydro have agreed on additional delivery volumes: Between 2021 and 2025 the largest German aluminium smelter will receive 1.3 TWh (1,300,000 MWh) of electricity annually with a base load of 150 megawatts (MW). With this contract, Hydro is replacing several existing power contracts
with internal and external suppliers, and will now focus almost entirely on the services of Axpo.

Tor-Ove Horstad, Senior Vice President, Head of Commercial Energy at Norsk Hydro ASA, says: “We are very glad that we have concluded another transaction with Axpo. The main decision for choosing Axpo as the supplier for those additional volumes besides the energy price – was the very good and professional relationship with Axpo.”

Axpo has been active on the German energy market since 2003. Through its subsidiary Axpo Deutschland GmbH, which is affiliated with Axpo Trading AG, Axpo offers industrial companies, distributors and power plant operators individually tailored products and services in the area of energy procurement,
marketing and structuring.
