Axpo and Vetropack Straža establish flexible energy supply partnership in Croatia

01.10.25 - Axpo and Vetropack Straža, the Croatian subsidiary of the Swiss-based glass packaging manufacturer Vetropack Group, have signed an innovative long term energy supply agreement, it was announced today. Covering a forecasted supply of 328,500 MWh, the partnership delivers unmatched flexibility in managing energy costs, while strongly supporting Vetropack’s sustainability agenda.

The agreement features a groundbreaking hybrid pricing model designed to maximize both cost efficiency and adaptability. By combining fixed pricing with dynamic mechanisms tied to local and international energy markets, Vetropack gains the flexibility to adapt to shifting market conditions while ensuring price stability for long-term planning.

A key highlight of the agreement is the seamless integration of renewable energy through third-party Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Axpo’s expertise in balancing and supply management enables Vetropack to increase renewable energy usage over time, while eliminating administrative complexities.

Driving sustainability, flexibility and innovation

“This partnership with Axpo provides us with the strategic flexibility we need as we navigate the energy transition,” said Darko Šlogar, Managing Director of Vetropack Straža. “The ability to integrate renewable energy into our supply mix supports our ambitious climate goals while ensuring uninterrupted production at our facilities.”

Axpo shared its commitment to delivering tailored solutions that empower clients to meet evolving market demands. “We are delighted to partner with Vetropack in delivering an energy solution that combines sustainability, flexibility and innovation”, said Filip Božić, Axpo Croatia Senior Originator. “This agreement underscores our ability to develop tailor-made energy solutions that enable industrial leaders to adapt confidently to the rapidly evolving energy landscape.”

Strengthening regional energy leadership

This agreement represents a significant new milestone in Axpo’s growth strategy in Croatia. Earlier this year, it signed a ten-year corporate Power Purchase Agreement (cPPA) with Klimaoprema, a leading manufacturer of cleanroom, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Through its regional network across Central and Southeastern Europe - including countries such as Croatia, Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Austria - Axpo provides tailored energy management solutions to its clients.
