Axpo appoints Sandro Giannotti to Head of Gas Trading

Axpo has appointed Sandro Giannotti as the company’s Head of Gas Trading, it was announced today. He will take up his new role on the 1st of January 2022, moving from his current position as Axpo’s Head Gas Trading Eastern Europe & Long Term Gas Supply.

Sandro Giannotti’s new responsibilities will include overseeing Axpo’s Gas Trading unit in Western and Eastern Europe. He will also manage Axpo’s gas portfolio, structured trading and long term contracts, reporting directly to Marco Saalfrank, Head Continental Europe Merchant Trading and a member of the Management Board of Axpo Solutions AG.

Marco Saalfrank commented: “Axpo has been active in natural gas trading for many years and Sandro has made a substantial contribution to our continuous expansion and success in this fast-growing business segment. I am delighted that he will take over the lead of our international gas trading activities and look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Sandro joined Axpo in 2009 and has held a variety of roles in Axpo’s gas business since then. Previously, he worked for Edison Storage as a gas storage tariff manager and was marketing manager for Panasonic’s European business.

Sandro has gained a breadth of knowledge and experience across different business areas throughout his career, including marketing, sales, operations/logistics, business development, merchant trading and procurement. In his most recent role at Axpo, he was responsible for growing the company’s physical gas business. This included its interest in the Trans Adriatic Pipeline which transports Caspian gas to Europe, and the establishment of Axpo’s Ukraine subsidiary, contributing to the expansion of a local gas market. Most recently, he has focused on developing and optimising the trading of Axpo’s physical gas positions in Europe, concentrating primarily on the Eastern Europe market.

Sandro holds an Executive MBA from the University of Bocconi in Italy and a Masters in Telecommunication Engineering.
