Proper waste separation pays off. You can save over CHF 100 per year if you separate kitchen and garden waste from the rest of your rubbish for fermentation. This also serves the environment: With the right process important nutrients are returned to nature.

About one third of all waste in Switzerland is organic. Fermentation uses the materials and energy contained in organic waste. Thanks to green waste collection, waste management becomes resource management. Fermentation has been a proven process for about 20 years. It is an ecologically and economically sound solution for handling garden, household and food waste.

The advantages at a glance

Proper waste separation:

  • saves up to one rubbish bag per week. That adds up to about CHF 100 per year.
  • ensures that important nutrients from the fermentation process are returned to the soil in the form of natural fertiliser.
  • makes an ecological contribution to the climate and society.
How I dispose of organic waste properly
  • Important: Only use compostable bags (compobag). You can identify them by the grid printed on the bag.
  • Do not use plastic bags to dispose of green waste. They have been manufactured with oil, are not biodegradable, and pollute composting soil.
This belongs in organic waste:
And do not dispose of these products with organic waste
