The ground-mounted system "Alpin Solar Ybrig"

The electorate of the municipality of Oberiberg voted no to this project at the beginning of March 2024. For this reason, Axpo and the local energy supplier EWS have stopped this solar project.

Together with EWS, Axpo planned the construction of the first alpine solar plant in the canton of Schwyz. The 9 MWp ground-mounted plant would have produced electricity for more than 2,600 households and supplied important winter electricity, especially in the winter months. The area could have continued to be used for alpine farming after the solar plant had been built.

The project in figures:

  • would have been built at around 1600 m above sea level
  • 9 megawatts of installed capacity
  • would have produced 12 gigawatt hours of electricity per year
  • enough electricity for more than 2600 households per year
  • 23'000 solar modules would have been installed
