Learning to garden

The "Garden Child" project was launched at a school in Rüti ZH on 11 May. In this practical setting, interested students learn the basics and how a garden functions. Axpo Biomasse AG is supporting the project with nutrient-rich soil from the fermentation plant in Jona.

The "Garden Child" project is an initiative of Bioterra and enables children to actively participate in gardening in their free time. The kids learn about nature's cycles and develop a direct connection to healthy, varied food by planting and caring for their own vegetable patch.

Near the school, Axpo Biomasse AG produces natural fertiliser and mixed substrates with its biogas facility in Jona. Axpo enthusiastically supports this meaningful project and is providing the school with free soil for the garden.

The children also receive a diagram explaining the natural cycle. And best of all: The diagram not only illustrates the natural cycle – but also becomes part of it. The paper used contains wild flower seeds and can be planted in the soil. With water, sun and a bit of patience, colourful flowers will soon be sprouting – much to the enjoyment of the children, as well as the bees and other important fauna.

In the meantime, we have received some photos of this successful project, and are, of course, happy to share them:

Guided tours of the biomass site

Axpo Biomasse AG offers free guided tours for school classes of all ages. During the guided tours, the processes at composting sites or fermentation plants, the natural cycle and the greatest challenges of this time in the biomass sector are explained. Depending on the prior knowledge of the visitor group, the levels of detail can be adjusted.

COVID-19: Please note that the possibilities for guided tours always consider the current federal and corporate COVID-19 regulations.
