Axpo has launched its electricity balancing services business in Hungary (locally known as aggregator) following accreditation of its portfolio of photovoltaic (PV) assets by the national grid, it was announced today. The move is the latest milestone in the company's expansion across Central European renewable energy markets.
Accreditation of Axpo’s PV portfolio for the provision of balancing services was completed by Hungary’s independent transmission system operator (TSO) MAVIR in May 2026. This latest development means Axpo is now able to offer enhanced value creation opportunities for its renewable energy partners across the region.
Axpo Senior Originator in Hungary Peter Hornyak said: "This accreditation represents a major step forward in our strategy to become a fully integrated service provider in the region. By leveraging our balancing services capabilities, we can unlock additional revenue streams for our partners and strengthen our position as a trusted partner in Hungary's energy transition."
Ancillary services play a crucial role in maintaining grid stability and reliability. These services - including frequency regulation, voltage control, and reserve capacity - are essential for balancing electricity supply and demand in real-time.
By aggregating distributed PV assets, Axpo can now support transforming individual renewable generators into responsive grid resources that support system stability.
