10.06.2020 | A very special assignment for Axpo linesmen

Special stork rescue operation

Not exactly everyday work for Axpo linesmen: Storks built a nest dangerously near an insulator on an SBB power pylon near Schwerzenbach. To protect the recently hatched fledglings and their parents from a possible electric shock, SBB and Axpo, in close cooperation with experts from "Storch Schweiz" and the Department of Hunting & Fishing of the Canton of Zurich organised a stork rescue operation and moved them to safer location in the middle of the pylon.

Two lifting cranes, linesmen and stork experts – what a contingent to move the stork family in Schwerzenbach (ZH). In a three-hour rescue operation, a new home was created for the storks at a height of 20 metres.
