Axpo builds Europe's largest single-span solar roof system

03.02.2026 - Axpo subsidiary Urbasolar has begun construction of Europe's largest single-span rooftop solar system. The system is being built on the 136,000 m² roof of the OMEGA logistics building in Dourges, northern France, and has a capacity of 18 megawatts.

In short:

  • Axpo subsidiary Urbasolar is building Europe's largest rooftop solar plant on the OMEGA logistics building in Dourges (northern France) with a capacity of 18 MWp – 1 MWp of which is for own consumption. The plant could supply over 4,500 households with electricity.
  • The OMEGA building covers 136,000 m2 and has space for 450 employees, including those from PepsiCo.
  • Instead of using only the legal minimum of 30 per cent of the roof area, the project covers the entire usable roof area with solar panels, demonstrating Urbasolar's expertise in large-scale roof installations.

The OMEGA logistics building was designed as a model of energy efficiency. It consists of twelve storage units, each with an area of around 11,000 m², a height of 11.5 metres and loading ramps on two of the four facades. With space for up to 450 employees, the new warehouse will help meet the growing demands of national logistics and contribute to the decarbonisation of logistics activities – particularly for the PepsiCo Group, which chose OMEGA and moved in at the end of September 2025.

The OMEGA project is led by SPL Delta 3, the real estate developer behind the multimodal platform. This is supported by a mixed consortium and the Hauts-de-France region. The end investors Tristan Capital Partners and Edmond de Rothschild REIM France are jointly financing the project.

Thibault Ancely (Managing Director, Tristan Capital Partners) and Kristelle Wauters (Chairwoman of the Board, Edmond de Rothschild REIM France) emphasise: “We are proud to be part of a project that combines innovation and sustainability. Our goal is to develop logistics infrastructures that meet today's environmental requirements. The partnership with Urbasolar is central to maximising energy efficiency.”

Antoine Millioud, President of Urbasolar and Head of the Solar Division at Axpo, adds: "This project is a milestone in our sustainability strategy. By integrating state-of-the-art photovoltaic solutions, we are demonstrating that solar energy can significantly reduce energy costs and CO₂ emissions. We value working with partners who share our vision of a sustainable energy future.” The project underlines Axpo's commitment to driving forward the energy transition and expanding renewable energy sources.

“To make this building a model in terms of its environmental footprint, we didn't want to limit ourselves to the legal minimum of 30% of the roof area,” explains Emmanuel Favreuille, Director at SPLA DELTA 3. “The decision to equip the entire usable roof area with a combination of self-consumption and feed-in proved to be a key success factor – especially as energy management is becoming increasingly important for our customers.”

Construction work on the rooftop solar installation will be completed and handed over in two phases. This project is part of a broader dynamic of sustainable development and innovation that demonstrates Urbasolar's expertise in large-scale rooftop installations and strengthens its position as a key player in the energy transition in France.
