A lot has happened since 1895, when Motor AG (the precursor to Axpo Holding AG) was founded to build the Beznau hydroelectric plant in the Swiss canton of Aargau. Since then, we’ve steadily expanded across Europe and now have over 30 subsidiaries across three continents.
Axpo Iberia was established in 2001 as part of EGL, one of the subsidiaries of the Swiss Axpo Group. In 2022, Axpo Services EMEA was created to ensure strategic alignment between the Swiss teams and those based in Madrid.
The headquarters of the Axpo Group are located in Baden, Switzerland. There, we manage over 100 power plants, ranging from hydropower to nuclear, biomass, and solar energy, making us Switzerland's largest producer of renewable energy.
Where Axpo generates energy in Switzerland:
Globally, the Axpo Group focuses on wind and solar energy, constantly investing in the most technically and economically suitable locations. Our wind farm portfolio includes sites in countries such as France, Spain, Italy, and Germany. We also market energy from the Global Tech I offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. Through our German subsidiary Volkswind GmbH, we plan, build, and operate wind farms; through our French subsidiary Urbasolar, we do the same for solar plants.
We are active in energy production, trade, and generation across Europe, North America, and Asia.
