Axpo Group to introduce dynamic tariff

Axpo subsidiary CKW will launch a dynamic tariff in 2026, supporting the energy transition and offering customers new opportunities to reduce their bills.

Dynamic tariffs have a crucial role to play in managing demand for electricity, enabling the reliable and efficient operation of the grid while saving consumers money. The tariffs also facilitate integration into the grid of electricity generated from renewable sources and the increased use of charging stations and heat pumps within the existing grid. 

Optimising electricity demand in this way reduces the need to expand the grid, which in turn leads to lower costs. That is because lower demand during peak periods means less infrastructure is needed to adequately size the grid. These savings benefit all our customers.

Through innovative solutions such as this, Axpo subsidiary CKW is helping drive the energy transition in Switzerland. Following the completed rollout of smart meters and a capacity-based tariff, from 2026 onwards our customers will be able to choose a dynamic grid tariff. For best results, they will require an energy management system that processes digital price signals and controls devices such as heat pumps, charging stations and battery storage systems.

By shifting their electricity consumption to periods of low grid demand, customers will benefit from lower grid tariffs. Once set up, optimisation with an existing energy management system takes place automatically. The technology does the work, maximising savings with no need for daily involvement by the customer.

Through its subsidiary CKW, the Axpo Group supplies electricity to more than 200,000 end consumers in Switzerland.
