We offer long-term offtake of biomethane and associated guarantees of origin. We can start working together at the planning or construction stage, or with a facility that is already operational. Each project is assessed individually, taking into account its scale and production profile, technical and regulatory requirements, and the potential for long-term cooperation.

Long-term offtake agreements
We offer biomethane offtake agreements for up to 20 years. These contracts can support investment financing, the project’s economic stability and access to biomethane buyers. We tailor the scope of cooperation to projects looking to secure a price for their entire output and those interested in sharing revenues from certificate sales.
Flexible pricing structures
We agree the financial model individually. It can combine a fixed price, a variable price or both, depending on the agreed contract structure.
Our options include:
Helping you realise value from biomethane
The cooperation model can cover trading in physical biomethane, guarantees of origin or both. Axpo takes on a range of operational and market-related responsibilities, so producers do not need to build their own sales channels or find end buyers.
Predictable revenues
A long-term partnership and a pricing structure tailored to the project help to limit price risk and provide a stable foundation for the financial model.
A solution tailored to your project
We do not start with a one-size-fits-all product. We tailor the contract to the project’s financing structure, support scheme, production profile and market requirements.
Market access and efficient settlement
We provide market access, secure settlement and support with risk management and certification.
Fewer operational responsibilities for producers
We undertake the agreed activities relating to the trading of biomethane and guarantees of origin.
We agree the planned volume, production profile, start date for deliveries and a cooperation model suited to the project.
We verify compliance with quality, technical and certification requirements, as well as how biomethane will be delivered to the gas grid.
We agree the scope of trading in physical biomethane and guarantees of origin, the pricing model, contract term and how sales will relate to the support scheme.
We implement the agreed cooperation model, including solutions to limit price, operational and market risks, and regular settlements, usually on a monthly basis.
To enable biomethane offtake under a structure suited to the project, the facility must comply with technical and regulatory requirements for injecting biomethane into the gas grid. This includes meeting the required quality parameters and being able to obtain certification and generate guarantees of origin. The facility must also be certified under a voluntary certification scheme, such as ISCC or KZR INiG. Our offer only covers biomethane injected into the gas grid and does not include LNG.
Offtake terms can affect the bankability of an entire investment. So it is definitely worth contacting Axpo while the project is being prepared, before financing is finalised and construction begins. We can also work with an operational facility, however.
Switzerland
Axpo is a leader in the dry anaerobic digestion of organic waste, operating 15 biogas plants producing renewable energy and natural fertilisers.
Spain
Noguera Renovables processes manure from dairy farms and currently injects 26 GWh of biomethane into the grid each year. Planned expansion is expected to increase output to 115 GWh per year.
Italy
Axpo operates a facility using agricultural waste in Grottole, in the Basilicata region, and is building three more facilities in Sicily. Each is expected to produce around 45 GWh of biomethane a year.
Poland
Since late 2024, Axpo has owned and operated a biogas plant in Stare Ślepce, Western Pomerania, which mainly uses agricultural waste.
Axpo also holds a 20% stake in a biomethane plant in Komorowo. Poland’s first agricultural biomethane plant, it produces exclusively for injection into the grid.
Axpo combines expertise in energy production, electricity and gas trading and sales, and market risk management. We draw on these capabilities to develop cooperation models tailored to biomethane producers.
The Axpo Group operates in more than 40 markets. We bring together the perspective of an international energy group with an understanding of local conditions and each project’s needs.
We assess each project individually, taking into account its scale, production profile, technical and regulatory requirements, financing structure and support scheme. We can begin discussions before financing is finalised and construction begins.
We ensure secure settlement and provide support with price, operational and market risk management. We take on the agreed responsibilities relating to the trading of biomethane and guarantees of origin.
The Axpo Group is expanding its activities in biogas and biomethane, from the operation of its own facilities to the delivery of projects working with local partners.
No. We can start working together at the planning or construction stage, as well as with facilities that are already producing biomethane.
Axpo offers long-term biomethane offtake agreements for up to 20 years. The contract term is agreed on a case-by-case basis.
Yes. Support scheme does not replace the need for an agreement to sell biomethane. The facility owner still needs to sign one with an entity licensed to trade. A long-term offtake agreement with Axpo can significantly reduce investment risks and help make the project bankable, providing a solid foundation for financing the investment.
By signing a long-term offtake agreement, Axpo assumes the risk of changes in exchange gas prices. Settlements with the facility owner are made according to the pricing structure they have selected.
We agree the financial model individually. It can include a fixed price, a market-based price or a combination of both. Solutions tailored to facilities using support mechanisms, including FIP, are also available.
