Axpo and R.Power sign long-term deal to optimise energy storage facility

22.01.2026 – Axpo and R.Power, one of Europe’s leading independent renewable energy producers, have signed an optimisation services agreement for one of Poland’s largest battery energy storage systems. The project is being developed in Jedwabne, northeastern Poland.

In short:

  • Long-term deal for Axpo to manage and optimise a large R.Power battery energy storage project in Jedwabne, Poland.

  • The battery system will be one of the biggest in Poland, helping to balance the power grid and support renewable energy.

  • The agreement builds on a long-term partnership, including previous solar energy deals.

The comprehensive long-term optimisation agreement has been concluded until the end of 2037. Construction of the 150 MW/ 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) has begun this year at Jedwabne, a town in the Kuyavian‑Pomeranian Voivodeship. When completed it will be among the largest such facilities in Poland.

This is the latest collaboration in the long‑standing partnership between the R.Power group and Axpo Polska, which includes a number of power purchase agreements (PPAs) for solar energy totalling around 300 MW.

Axpo Polska Managing Director Mateusz Marczewski said: “I’m delighted to be extending our cooperation with R.Power into a new area, namely the optimisation of energy storage facilities. A key aspect of this project was to design a contract aligned with dynamically evolving operational and regulatory standards. This will ensure that the installation can participate efficiently in the market and provide balancing services. Thanks to our experience, we were able to propose a complex solution tailored to the investor’s specific needs, meeting all necessary requirements for bankability as well as R.Power’s internal procedures.”

R.Power Chief Commercial Officer Rafał Hajduk said: “The development of the Jedwabno energy storage facility is a strategic step in expanding our portfolio of flexibility assets, supporting renewable energy integration and the security of the Polish power system. Cooperation with Axpo provides us with advanced optimisation tools and a commercialisation model that will help us enhance the project’s efficiency throughout its lifetime. The foundation of this cooperation is our long-standing partnership with Axpo, built through multiple joint initiatives, as well as Axpo’s support in navigating the dynamically developing energy storage market in Poland.”

R.Power is one of the fastest growing developers and independent renewable energy producers in Poland. Also active in Romania, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Germany, the company specialises in photovoltaic and wind projects as well as battery energy storage systems.

For several years, Axpo has been developing, building and commercially optimising utility‑scale storage systems in Switzerland and across Europe, while also expanding its BESS activities internationally. Axpo has been operating in Poland for 25 years and today is one of the country’s largest independent energy dealers and offtakers of renewable energy. Axpo Polska provides services to around 35,000 companies, manages a renewable energy portfolio of approximately 16 terawatt hours (TWh), implements large-scale photovoltaic projects and develops energy storage facilities and biogas power plants.
