10.07.2018 - Unit 2 of the Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB) has been back on grid since last night. During the shutdown, which lasted approximately two weeks, 20 fuel elements were replaced on a rotating basis and various scheduled work was performed. With the completion of refuelling, the plant is now ready for the next operating period.
Unit 2 of the Beznau nuclear power plant was taken off grid on 26 June 2018 as scheduled in order to replace fuel elements. Twenty of the 121 fuel elements were replaced and installed in the reactor. In addition, recurring inspection work, integral system tests and scheduled work on individual plant components were carried out.
Following the approval of the Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI, Unit 2 is now in the process of resuming full power operation. The plant will be back to full load in about two days.
At times steam will be emitted into the atmosphere from the non-nuclear section of the plant during the start-up phase. This does not pose any danger to human beings or the environment.
