Beznau nuclear power plant Guided tours

Would you like to stand in the middle of the powerhouse of a nuclear power plant or look at the monitors in the control room? We make this possible at our Beznau nuclear power plant.

Unit 1 of the Beznau nuclear power plant was commissioned in 1969 as the first of the five Swiss nuclear power plants, followed three years later by Unit 2. Thanks to nuclear energy, it was possible to avoid the construction of oil and coal-fired power plants in Switzerland – and to make Swiss electricity production nearly CO2-free.

Safe, climate-friendly electricity production

The Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB) consists of largely identical light water reactors: Together Unit 1 and Unit 2 generate around 6000 gigawatt hours of electricity per year. This corresponds to about twice the electricity consumption of the city of Zurich.

Since its commissioning, the KKB has produced more than 250,000 gigawatt hours of electricity. This has saved around 300 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in comparison to generation from a lignite-fired power plant.

Guided tours for groups

A guided tour of the Beznau nuclear power plant is free and lasts 1.5 hours. Guided tours are available for groups of eight or more. The minimum age for participation is 12 years.
