Axpo UK signs long-term PPA for new Slough Multifuel energy-from-waste facility in England

Axpo continues to expand its presence in the UK energy market: Its subsidiary Axpo UK Ltd. and Slough Multifuel Ltd., co-owned by SSE Thermal and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, have signed a new power purchase agreement (PPA), it was announced today. Axpo UK will purchase 100% of the power exported by a new 50 MW energy-from-waste plant which is currently under construction at the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire, England.

The deal will manage the offtake of electricity through the plant’s commissioning period and thereafter for a period of fifteen years. Axpo provides the plant with a flexible PPA, managing all exports of power to the public distribution network, as well as providing the opportunity for the generator to sell power and heat to local consumers, therefore benefitting from its embedded location in an area characterised by large industrial users.

Ross McHardy, Senior Originator at Axpo UK, said: “We are very pleased to sign this new PPA with the Slough Multifuel energy-from-waste facility which demonstrates Axpo’s ability to manage bespoke and sometimes complex physical arrangements and commercial terms on behalf of its clients”.

Axpo has been present in the United Kingdom since 2008. Axpo UK, the Group’s subsidiary for Great Britain and Ireland, provides risk management, market access, and supply solutions across the energy supply chain. Its clients include gas and electricity producers, large industrial and commercial (I&C) consumers, and energy suppliers. Growth in the UK is part of Axpo’s strategy of constantly expanding its international presence.

KW Pradapunt: Consortium an environmental organisations reach agreement

WWF and Pro Natura have lodged objections as part of the public consultation process for the concession application for the Pradapunt hydroelectric power plant planned in Schanfigg. Among other things, these objections concern the design of the protection regulations for the Plessur river and floodplain protection. In a constructive exchange, the ‘Wasserkraft Plessur’ consortium and the environmental organisations WWF Graubünden and Pro Natura Graubünden have reached a basic agreement. With the amended protection regulations for the Plessur, which will be presented to the Arosa municipal parliament on 18 September, the concession approval process can continue.
