Beznau NPP: reactor shutdown in unit 2

07.10.2022 - Due to a malfunction in the non-nuclear part of the plant, a reactor shutdown of KKB 2 occurred on Friday. The plant was in safe condition at all times. The malfunction has been rectified. The plant was reconnected to the grid on Saturday early morning after coordination with ENSI.

Due to a faulty measurement signal in the non-nuclear part of the plant, there was a turbine shutdown today and subsequently a reactor shutdown at 9.06 a.m. in unit 2 of the Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB). The plant responded according to design and was in a safe condition at all times. The supervisory authority ENSI and other authorities were informed in accordance with regulations.

Following a safety-oriented root cause analysis, the technical experts at KKB replaced the affected components and rectified the malfunction. KKB reconnected the plant to the grid during the night on Saturday after coordinating with the supervisory authority.

During the restart, water vapor is visible above the plant's machine hall (non-nuclear part). There is no danger for the population and the environment.
