Klingnau hydropower station: electricity for 45,000 homes produced

05.01.2021 - The Board of Directors of Aarekraftwerk Klingnau AG (AKA) today approved the annual report and accounts for the 2019/20 financial year to be presented to the General Meeting of Shareholders on March 12, 2021. Aarekraftwerk Klingnau produced 202 million kilowatt hours of electricity in the year under review - slightly more than in the previous year.

The operation of Aarekraftwerk Klingnau was accident-free and without any significant disruptions in financial year 2019/20. The power plant produced a good 202 million kilowatt hours of electricity, which corresponds to the consumption of around 45,000 average four-person households. Due to slightly higher discharge volumes of the Aare, production was above that of the previous year (186 million kWh).

In a long-term comparison, the Aare carried little water in the year under review. The discharge was a good 7 percent below the 10-year average. On only 12 days of the year did the Aare carry more water than could be turbined in the power plant (previous year: 32 days).

Maintenance work on the Klingnau hydropower station was carried out as usual in the year under review. For example, the barrage gates and chains underwent a comprehensive inspection. Work on the ecological compensation measures started in March. These are proceeding according to plan.

AKA's annual costs charged to partners amounted to 9.7 million Swiss francs in the year under review (previous year: 10 million Swiss francs). This means that production costs amounted to 4.78 Swiss cents per kilowatt hour (previous year: 5.37 Swiss cents).

Aarekraftwerk Klingnau AG is a partner plant of Axpo (60%) and AEW Energie AG (40%).
