15.07.2019 | Testimonies on the 50 years of the Beznau nuclear power plant

Three generations

1969: Apollo 11 lands on the moon; Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Who perform for 400,000 hippies at the legendary Woodstock Festival; the US government contemplates a nuclear strike against North Vietnam; and Switzerland’s first nuclear power plant goes on grid on Beznau island. It is the first plant worldwide to be built without governmental funds. And it is the start of a legendary collaboration at Beznau – the Beznau spirit.

Three generations of employees that operated and still operate the power plant talk about their experiences and memories at Beznau: Testimonies on the last 50 years of nuclear history in Switzerland, from its euphoric beginnings in the 60's through all the upheavals up until today.

In the upcoming weeks we will let these three generations speak. What motivated them in their work at the Beznau nuclear power plant? How was the teamwork among colleagues? Who were the individuals that shaped Beznau?

Here is preview of the film series:

"Wir von der Insel"
