Battery Congress 2026 (Swissolar)

How can a battery storage system be integrated into an active industrial site — and what contribution can it make to resilience?
At the Batteriekongress in Baden, Felix Traub presented the project at Egli-Mühlen AG in Nebikon: Axpo delivered and commissioned a battery storage system for the animal feed manufacturer, with an output of 3.5 MW and a capacity of 10 MWh.
The distinctive silo towers at Egli Mühlen are covered with solar panels. The battery storage solution, with Axpo’s energy management system, can store solar power, optimise grid operations and provide balancing services. In the event of a grid outage, the system secures the electricity supply at the site.
Integrating the system into the site was also part of the solution: the two-level structure on a steel frame reduces the space required by 50 per cent and fits into the existing infrastructure. An example of how storage, energy supply and site requirements need to be considered together.
Thank you to Swissolar for organising the Batteriekongress and to everyone who attended for the valuable exchange.
