KKB 1: Turbine shut down for repair work

At midday today, the output of unit 1 at the Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB) had to be temporarily reduced by 50%. The reason was an oil leak in a turbine in the non-nuclear part of the power plant. The plant is operating stably with reduced output. Investigations into the cause and necessary repair measures have been initiated. The Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI has been informed.

At around noon today, an oil leak was detected in the turbine inlet valves in unit 1 in the non-nuclear part of the plant. The affected turbine was then stopped manually and the output of unit 1 of the Beznau nuclear power plant was temporarily reduced by 50%. Steam discharges are visible above the machine hall of unit 1. There is no danger to people or the environment.

The Beznau nuclear power plant immediately informed the authorities about the case and initiated the necessary steps to clarify the cause and carry out the necessary repairs.
