Secure Swiss Utility Network (SSUN) Secure Data Infrastructure for the Energy and Utility Sector

A secure and highly available data exchange between all market participants is the foundation for a reliable operation of Switzerland’s supply infrastructure. The Secure Swiss Utility Network (SSUN) provides this access – based on the SCION technology developed at ETH Zurich. Axpo Systems is a provider and partner of SSUN and thus offers a decisive added value for energy suppliers.

The national data platform according to the Electricity Supply Ordinance (StromVV) will be operated within SSUN in line with the  VSE guidelines for standardized data exchange (SDND). According to SDND, all market partners exchanging data with the national platform must be directly integrated into SSUN by 2030 at the latest to ensure secure data exchange within SSUN. From 2030, conventional Internet access via gateways to the data platform for market partners will be deactivated. In view of the increasingly acute threat landscape, Axpo Systems and VSE recommend integrating into SSUN as soon as possible to benefit from SSUN’s additional security and performance.

SSUN is based on SCION (Scalability, Control and Isolation On Next‑Generation Networks), the new generation of a secure Internet developed at ETH Zurich. SCION unites path control, multipathing, and security‑by‑design in a single protocol. This enables SSUN to reach a new level of security, performance, and transparency.
