Unit 1 of the Beznau nuclear power plant has been disconnected from the grid due to a malfunction in the non-nuclear part of the plant. The specialists at KKB are currently working to rectify the cause. There is no danger to people or the environment.
An automatic fast shutdown occurred in Unit 1 of the Beznau nuclear power plant at around 14:10. This was due to a malfunction in the non-nuclear part of the plant (level control in one of two steam generators). KKB 1 was disconnected from the grid and is in a safe condition. Due to the fast shutdown, water vapour escaped from the non-nuclear part of the plant. There is no danger to people or the environment. The Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI has been informed.
The specialists at KKB are in the process of localising and rectifying the cause of the rapid shutdown. The plant will then be reconnected to the grid in coordination with the supervisory authority.
