Beznau nuclear power plant: emergency shutdown in unit 1

19.09.2025 – Due to the failure of an extra-high voltage line in the Swissgrid network, an emergency shutdown in KKB 1 occurred yesterday. The plant was in a safe condition at all times.

On Thursday, a high-voltage power line connected to the Beznau nuclear power plant failed. As a result, Unit 1 of the Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB) shut down automatically. This led to visible steam escaping above the plant's machine room in the non-nuclear part of the facility.

The power plant was in a safe condition at all times. The regulatory authority ENSI and other authorities were informed in accordance with regulations.

Technical investigations are currently underway. The date for restarting KKB1 will be determined in consultation with ENSI.

There is no danger to the population or the environment.
