26.10.2026 – After approximately 18 months, Axpo has completed wind measurements in the cantonal area designated for wind energy development at Tannenberg. Over the coming days, Axpo will dismantle the 125-metre high measurement mast. It recorded wind and weather data as well as bat activity. The analysis of the data will inform the ongoing feasibility assessment and project planning.
The wind measurement phase at Tannenberg began in April 2025. During this period, the mast recorded data at various heights on wind conditions, weather and bat activity. The data on bat activity will help assess the potential impact of a wind farm on local wildlife and identify suitable protective measures.
The analysis of the measurement data is an important part of the ongoing feasibility assessment. Axpo will now combine the collected data with the findings of ongoing technical and logistical assessments. These include, among other things, potential transport routes and the grid connection. On this basis, Axpo will further develop the project plans.
Axpo regularly informs the Office for Spatial Development and Geoinformation of the Canton of St. Gallen, the municipalities of Waldkirch and Andwil, and local partners about the project’s progress. In spring 2027, Axpo will inform local residents about the wind measurement results and the next steps in project planning at a public information event. Experts will answer questions and be available for an open discussion.
The planned wind park at Tannenberg will consist of four wind turbines with a total capacity of approximately 22 megawatts. The systems could produce around 30 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year – equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 7,000 households.
