Open Day at Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern

22.09.2026 - Fascinating insights into the operation of one of Switzerland’s largest hydroelectric power stations: on Saturday 3 October, Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern (KLL) is inviting local residents to come and visit. The event marks the inauguration of the extended operations building.

Here’s what it’s all about:

• Linth-Limmern Power Stations (KLL) moved into their extended operations building in Tierfed this year. To mark the occasion, residents are warmly invited to an open day.
• With an annual output of up to two billion kilowatt-hours, KLL makes a significant contribution to security of supply. With 78 employees at present, KLL is also a major employer in the region.

During the open day, from 10 am to 4 pm, visitors will gain a fascinating insight into one of Switzerland’s largest hydroelectric power stations. They can explore the power station facilities and the expanded operations building on various guided tours, whilst receiving valuable information from KLL staff. The programme is complemented by various information stands, a competition with great prizes and a refreshment area. Admission is free; no registration is required.

Convenient travel by shuttle bus
You can travel by public transport to Linthal railway station. Those arriving by car can park in the Braunwaldbahnen car park. Shuttle buses run conveniently to and from Tierfed from both locations. Bicycle parking is available at Tierfed. There are no car parks for private cars at Tierfed.

78 employees in a wide range of roles
Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG currently employs 78 staff, which corresponds to around 63 full-time positions. Specialists in electrical engineering, mechanics, construction and infrastructure work together on operations, maintenance and administration. KLL is also a major training provider, offering apprenticeships as a maintenance technician, cable car mechatronics technician, polymechanic and electrical installer. During the open day, visitors can get first-hand information about these exciting professions and vocational training.

A significant contribution to security of supply
Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG is a partner plant of Axpo and the Canton of Glarus. Axpo holds 85 per cent of the shares, whilst the Canton of Glarus holds 15 per cent. KLL generates around 1.5 to 2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This is equivalent to the electricity consumption of up to 500,000 households and makes a significant contribution to the security of supply of renewable electricity.
