01.09.2026 – Axpo is replacing the existing cable line between the Vorauen and Magazin Klöntal transformer stations in the municipality of Glarus (canton of Glarus). The installation of the new power cable in Lake Klöntal will require a brief partial closure of the lake and the Rhodannenberg car parks at the end of September.
In brief:
Part of the lake and the Rhodannenberg car parks must be closed during the installation work. Cable pulling will take place from 28 to 29 September 2026, with 30 September reserved as an alternative date in the event of bad weather. If the alternative date is not required, the lake will remain fully open on that day. The Rhodannenberg car parks will also be closed from 28 to 30 September.

The closure affects the section of Lake Klöntal between Rhodannenberg and Vorauen (see map). During the closure, the cable will be prepared on the lake and pulled into position. The cables will then be fed into the designated cable protection ducts. The restricted area will be clearly signposted, secured and monitored on site.
Axpo asks all users of Lake Klöntal to stay outside the marked area and follow the instructions of personnel on site. Boat berth holders have been informed directly. Notices at the harbour facilities, dry berths and embarkation points will also provide information about the partial closures.

Axpo is renewing the existing 16-kilovolt cable line in the municipality of Glarus (canton of Glarus). By installing the new power cable, Axpo is helping to ensure a reliable power supply for the Klöntal valley over the long term. Around 2.7 kilometres of cable will be laid in a cable duct block in the lake, following the route of the former Pragel Pass road. The remaining 2.3 km will be installed as an armoured submarine cable and lowered onto the lake bed. The associated civil engineering work was completed between January and March 2026.
