Axpo and e-STORAGE agree their first joint battery project in Italy

Axpo and Canadian Solar Inc. subsidiary e-STORAGE have agreed to develop an 8 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in southern Italy, it was announced today. Construction at Axpo’s Rizziconi power plant in Calabria is due to begin end of 2026, with deliveries of electricity to the grid expected early 2028.

Axpo conducts its first bio-LNG refuelling of MOL vessel in Barcelona

Axpo’s refuelling of a Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) vessel was its first ship-to-ship bio liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation in the port of Barcelona, it was announced today. MOL’s Lapis Ace vehicle carrier received bio-LNG from Axpo's bunkering vessel Green Pearl, marking another milestone in the development of alternative marine fuels infrastructure and services in Spain.

Strong energy future needs wind power in Winter

Axpo has joined forces with representatives from the energy sector, industry associations and environmental organisations to establish an alliance opposing anti-wind power forest protection and municipal protection initiatives due to be voted on in Switzerland. The alliance will counter both proposals with facts and evidence, arguing that a secure energy supply depends on diversity. The Swiss Federal Council also recommends rejecting the initiatives, stating they would severely restrict the development of wind energy in Switzerland. As a result, an important contribution to winter energy would be lost, weakening Switzerland’s long-term security of supply.
