We're from the island Working at the Beznau nuclear power plant

The Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB) is located on the Aare island near Döttingen, surrounded by forests and green spaces. Around 600 people work here to ensure that the nuclear power plant reliably supplies climate-friendly electricity. They make an important contribution to Switzerland's security of supply in a variety of jobs and exciting positions.

Immerse yourself in the world of the axpo-wide known "Beznau Spirit" and get to know our employees - especially our power plant manager Nicolai Braun.

The "Beznau Spirit"

"The safe and reliable operation of KKB is at the centre of our work and sets the pace in both daily and strategic areas. This motivates us to deliver top performance. Thanks to our highly experienced and competent employees, we master every challenge at KKB with flying colours. All our colleagues, whether cooks, tradespeople, security staff, engineers or power plant managers, treat each other as equals. This is not only impressive, it is the foundation of the Beznau spirit."
Roger Märki, Head of Maintenance Electrical Engineering
"In a nuclear power plant, you don't just work in your own specialized field, but in addition you also provide important input to interdisciplinary work teams or can get involved in the plant's fire department. And besides, who doesn't like working on an island!"
Jennifer Küpper, Head Training & Organisation
"The work at the Beznau nuclear power plant is characterised by a strong spirit based on respect, pride, ambition, quality, safety and a shared vision. The workforce combines its expertise and passion to achieve the highest standards and secure Switzerland's electricity supply. Every employee contributes to the efficient and reliable operation of the power plant. It is a privilege to be part of this community and to contribute to a sustainable future."
Daniele Dagani, Operational Support Specialist
"I really enjoy working at the Beznau nuclear power plant. I am particularly motivated by the informal and open atmosphere among my colleagues. We share the same goal. We want our plant to run safely and smoothly. Everyone is prepared to give their best to achieve this goal.

As the (future) Head of Operations, I am very proud of how conscientiously and committed we are to looking after the plant, constantly seeking potential for improvement and implementing new solutions. We approach every challenge in a reflective and constructive manner; suggestions from everyone are always welcome. This is the only way we can continuously improve."
Peter Niggli, Deputy Head of Electrical Engineering and (future) Head of Operations

Your benefits

At the KKB, we not only offer you an environment in which you can actively participate and contribute your skills and abilities to the safe production of electricity in Switzerland. You will also benefit from numerous other advantages.

Fair at all levels
As the market leader in our field, we offer competitive wages in all areas, including a variable compensation component. The principle of equal pay for equal work is important to us.

Expertise and experience
The technology in the oldest nuclear power plant is modern, complex and of the highest standard. This requires outstanding know-how and a great deal of experience. In our long-standing, well-coordinated team, new employees benefit from in-depth knowledge and at the same time can contribute new ideas to master the challenges of everyday life even better.

Knowledge is power
We still have many years of operation ahead of us. But at some point, the end will come. At the end of the KKB life cycle, it will be Axpo's own employees who will take care of proper decommissioning. Numerous internal training courses are already filling the knowledge gaps of tomorrow.

Lifelong learning
At the KKB, the learning process begins on the very first day. In a comprehensive introduction, everyone receives an overview of the specific and safety-relevant requirements. And that's just the beginning: After that, employees benefit from numerous training courses, continuing education opportunities and flexible e-learning courses.

Safety first
For us, safety is not just a compliance issue, but a top priority. We adapt our health and safety standards optimally to the respective work environment - and go far beyond SUVA's requirements. We define guidelines and processes that ensure that the well-being of everyone involved is always the focus.

Comprehensively covered
You can't invest in the future early enough. The KKB contributes generously to retirement plans and offers flexible options for early retirement. If you miss work due to illness or accident, we continue full salary payments for up to two years. And because welfarealways comes first, we also offer discounted health insurance premiums.

Your training and further development at the KKB

At the KKB, learning starts on day one. After a comprehensive introduction, you start a modular, one- to two-year training program which is structured slightly differently depending on your function.

General power plant training includes various modules on occupational safety, radiation protection, maintenance, radioactive waste, decommissioning planning and power plant operation in general. In addition, there are various internal training courses relating to the energy sector, energy production, and trading and sales, which are offered by the Axpo Academy.
